"You are a prodigal son"

“Who are you talking about? What we know him here as is Emeka and our surname is Ezeuko not Ezeugo as he is parading himself.”
These were the words of Mr. Aaron Ezeuko, who is an uncle to Rev. Emeka King Ezeugo's uncle, founder and pastor of the Christian Praying Assembly, Lagos, when journalists visited their village, Umulekwe, Achina, in Aguata L6cal Government of Anambra State.

Aaron who is the immediate younger brother to Rev King's father, late Edwin Ezeuko said that the Ezeuko family is popular as they are responsible, well-behaved and God fearing. He said Emeka (Rev King) was well brought up and therefore, could not explain what had happened to him after he left home to Lagos .

"You know when you send you child to school, a good child, you may not know what he will turn out to be and I think that is the case with Emeka. But you can see that our family is a disciplined one, you can still go around and I want to tell you that we do not know what he is doing there” said Aaron.

The eldest man in the family, Mr. Godwin Ezeuko could not hide his feelings and great disappointment when he told journalists that "If you have come here with him, I would have asked him why he changed his name, we are Ezeuko and not Ezeugo"

The 87-year-old retired teacher repeatedly said in a parable, referring to King that "If you are always doing what you like and which does not please God; one day what does not please you will visit you."

Godwin disclosed that King was before he started his own church a visioner at All Christian Practical Praying Band, Ufuma, popularly known as "Ekpere Ufuma" where he disagreed with the authority and ran away. The elder Ezeuko told the whole story:

I retired in 1984. Emeka Ezeuko is my younger brother's son. His father was Edwin Ezeuko who lived in Onitsha where he had all his five children and Emeka is the first child. Emeka after secondary school got admission into Nnamdi Azikiwe University where he studied Psychology. He is a psychologist. After studies he started Prayers at Ekpere Ufuma that is called All Christian Practical Praying Band and became a visioner there.

We were with him at Achina branch and he was seeing visions and later developed to be a visioner at the Ufuma headquarters. There he was doing the job, until a time he worked the way that was not acceptable to the praying band and he was told that the way he was working is not the way Ufuma works. Because of that he got annoyed and left and started his own prayer house.

He continued the way he liked though we don't know if that is how God directed him, or is how he learnt it. That is what he was doing until this stage he is now, that he has case. If someone continues to do what he likes, if that thing that he likes does not please God, one day he will see what he does not like.

So, we saw Emeka as one who was doing well at Ufuma Praying Band. It was when he left that he started praying the way he is praying now. We at home do not know how he is practicing, because I have not been there. I don't know how he practices and what we hear now on how he is practicing i s not what he was taught. He is only doing what he likes. But God told us to inquire from him to before we do anything.

There was no time he was taught how to do evil things like we are hearing he is doing now. He is doing his will and as he is doing so, we are asking God to direct him aright. If what he is doing is not good, let God change him, So that he will behave well. We at home, who are members of Ezeuko family do not know how he is practicing his faith in Lagos .

We are Sad:
What is happening now is sad. It does not give joy and I don't like it myself. If I had seen him, I would have rebuked him that what he is doing is not good. Let him remove monkey's hands from the soup so it does not become a human hand. It is not good. I mean what he is doing. Nobody like evil thing. Whoever that goes to pray to God is seeking Gods blessing, not destruction.

Since the death of his father in 1998, and after he finished his burial rites, he left and we heard that he said he will not return to Ezeuko family house until after seven years. There was a meeting we formed then, Ezeuko educational Board which I am the chairman and he said he would be a member.

But he left for Lagos and up till today, we did not set our eyes on him. Since then, he has not set his foot on his father's compound to see how it is. When his father immediate brother died, we did not see Emeka. He came to Ekwulobia for his crusade but did not step into this village. So since he started this, he longer come here that us why he changed Ezeuko name to Ezeugo.
