This is talking about temperament. Some people for example, Tim Lahaye, he talks about temperament. He talks about four main categories of temperament. Of course, we have people who not necessarily are having one of them. They have majorly melancholic and partially phlegmatic, majorly sanguine and partially this and that. Did he say he wanted my opinion? Yes, those character traits are there. They are what people have observed over the years. Therefore, they have classified people and their temperament into one each of these categories.
I would say this to us that when God created man, before the fall of man, some of these weaknesses were not there God created everything perfectly. The bible says that God said, it was good. So those weaknesses were not there. Yes, it may be that because of genetic coding, two parents may have one child that is sanguine and then the second child is choleric. So that could happen to children of Adam and Eve, one after the other, going this way or that way.
But the weaknesses were not there. When one becomes a Christian the Holy Ghost is working in you, in your life. You should expect that the spirit of God should help you to work upon these weaknesses. And he will remove them from your life so that the strength of these traits can show in your life without the weaknesses. That you should expect the Holy Ghost to do with you if indeed you will co-operate with the Holy Ghost. And now how to apply that to one's Christian faith? If you have found out that this is your own area, the strength of that particular temperament.
Begin to exercise yourself in that strength. And when you notice some weaknesses of this character traits are still conspicuous in your life, prayerfully get such thing out of your life, so that the strength can be a benefit to you and to all those within your circle of influence.
Now, talking about your pastor expecting everybody to follow or to have people who will follow his temperament. I don't believe that a pastor who understands the bible very well will expect everybody to have his own temperament. Rather, the pastor should enjoy the diversity of the people of the church.
For example, everybody doesn't have the same strength, everybody does not do things the same in the church. No! The pastor should rather enjoy that diversity. You find out that Bro. A is this way and Bro B is that way. He should enjoy that diversity and blend them together. And that should make the church advance toward what God expects them to move into.
So if the pastor sits up, having the tendency to exhort everybody to be like him, he is making a mistake and he should look into it again. He should see how he can enjoy the diversity God has definitely allowed us to have in the world so that we can compliment one another.
