Herbert Bayard Swope has this to say:
I cannot give you the formula for Success, but I can give you the formula for failure- which is try to please everybody.
Henry A Ironside says: The Christian life is never static, one must either grow in grace or there will be backsliding and deterioration.(Matt 23 27-27)
You don't have to be like the Pharisees and the scribes the Lord called them Hypocrites because they appear beautiful outward but are within full of dead men's bones uncleanliness, and iniquities.
The inward appearance is dirty with iniquities and uncleanliness while at the outside they pretend to be Holy brethren.
The Composition of Man
Man is of triple dimension:
- The Flesh
- The Body or Soul
- The Spirit.
The outward man has got something to do with the flesh, although flesh cannot please God. Hence not all that calls themselves Chidren of God are true Children. Meditate on Rom.9:8-11, Gal 4:22-31
Not only this the flesh hate to be disciplined or to be subjected under control e.g as in fasting and prayer 1 COR 9:27. However the end of the flesh is hell.
The flesh loves fashion, modernization,wears etc after the fall of Man,because Man had his choice rather than the choice of God of Nakedness which represents righteousness, sincerity between husband and wife and God their Creator, amongst other things.Gen.3:10
The flesh hate serving & Worshipping God but boast and Proud... prov 6:16-19
An average man commit sin with the flesh called the sensory organs- The ear, eye, nose, tongue or mouth etc. Job therefore made a convenant with his eyes not to allow it to make him to fall.
Samson saw with his eyes before the fall - Job 10:4. and David saw Bathshebba with his eyes.
And if your right eye offend thee pluck it out and cast it from thee, for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. Matt 5:29
The inward Man
The inward man comprises of the Soul ( the body) and the Spirit. God would always communicate with the Spirit aspect of Man. When this aspect is regenerated as when genuinely Born- again 2 cor 5:17 cannot commit sin because the seed of Christ is continually watered by the word of God. 1 john 3:7-10 and cannot be involved in sin. However the Spirit of Man requires renewer by the word on a continual basis- 2cor4:16
The inward Man receives the Gospel of truth & Abide by it 2 cor 4:3-5
The Spirit Man or the inward man is the abode for the Holy- Spirit of God, and when fully developed can control the outward man having it in subjection.
The inner man grows after the likeness of Christ as an Overcomer. A servant is not greater than his master. Lk 6:40
By their Fruits....
Outward Man- The fruits of the Flesh as in Gal. 5:16-21
Inward Man- The fruits of the Spirit as in Gal. 5:22-26
Which of the inward or outward controls your life.
The outward the - flesh
Or the inward Man- The Holy- Spirit.
As many that are led by the Spirit therefore are the Children of God. If you are led and renewed by the word of God in your inner Man,
then you are true Children of God and heading towards the Kingdom of God.
To be renewed in your inner Man:
You need to be genuinely Born-Again and repent of all your known and unknown sins. There is no bargain to this.
Accept forgiveness provision of Jesus 2000 years ago.
You must be sanctified and be filled with the Spirit not wine.
You must be living a holy & Righteous life.
You must be living a prayer life, praying in the Holy- Ghost, and Meditating in the word of God.
You must forsake assemblies of God's people.
If you are able to obey the above instructions then your mansion in Jesus's chamber is sure.
