This subject calls for proper balance in outlook. While some Churches closes their door against any outside speakers, others welcome just anybody. While some Churches are selective in their approach, others just welcome every dick and harry to their pulpit.
While God has used some guest speakers to lift, bless, edify and get a Church ready for Gods' next move, it is sad to note that many Churches have also experienced confusion, crisis, problems and breakaway due to the ungodly activities of guest speakers.
Every Church needs Guest Speakers once in a while to bring fresh dimension and refreshing presence of God to the people. There will always be a place for that. But the Church should not be built on guest speakers. When a pastor uses Guest Speakers to grow his Church, the people will not be happy to hear him.
When inviting a Guest Speaker, here are good advises to follow:
Don't publicize his name without first contacting him and securing his consent.
Specify his message and purpose of coming in clear terms.
If residential, find a good guest house or hotel for him.
Your protocol officers of the same sex must take good care of him.
Prepare his honorarium well in advance. Be generous to him.
Let him know the order of the house and when to start, what to do and what not to do, plus when to stop. Don't be too humble to state this.
Guest Speakers that are controversial and preaches Church doctrine should not mount your pulpit. Don't be too humble to correct errors you see in Guest Speakers.
Guest speakers that raise money for themselves publicly or privately should be stopped there and then.
Don't invite someone you don't know properly and pray very well about him. Don't invite a Guest Speaker when you are not around.
Guest Speakers offering private prophecy and prayers should be stopped forthwith.
Guest Speakers are under the authority of their host and should therefore be submissive to the pastor.
Guest Speakers must not make solicited or unsolicited contact with members that results in sins and breakaway.
Guest Speakers must be a blessing not a curse on the Church, financially and spiritually.
Guest Speakers that are begging to be invited either have ulterior motive or are only after money.
Guest Speakers that have no base with a credible organisation should not be invited.
