I hope some of these pentecostal pastors read this interview with Bishop Okogie. The corruption we see in the Church today is spear-headed by majority of these pentecostal churches. Now that churches could be opened by anybody, the educated and the illiterate, the born-again and burn-again, the good-intentioned and the ill-intentioned, the money-conscious and the soul-conscious, we are bound to see just any kind of church around us.

We thank God for people like Bishop Okogie who have assisted in drumming the clarion call to sanity in our churches, politics and society at large. Without people like him, only God knows where the country would be today.

I was lucky to have left Nigerian five months ago. The frustrations I encountered are in many areas. Concerning the church for example, I agree with Okogie, the Catholic priest. There is no lie in the fact many pastors are out to make money and making it to feel cool.
How can we explain pastors having fleet of cars that are not used for church affairs? Pastors driving on top speed, with tinted glasses! How can we explain that? You can't see some of these pastors today? Nobody dare touch the hem of their garments. You cannot because they move about with body-guards. They always think when you want to see them, you have come to beg for money. It is easy to see Jesus live these days than see some of the pastors. Some pastors do jerry curls, some tone their skins, all of these for what? Certainly they are not promoting the kingdom.

The pentecostal pastors are worse off. There is a great moderation in the orthodox churches but all these new generation churches where the pastor left their former churches in anger to start their own, money is their focus. Money, cars, fame, influence, fine wives, London, America, etc. May the Lord save us in Nigeria.

All the pastors are guilty. Who is not after money amongst them all?

What can be done to regulate the church? Is this how the church will remain till Jesus comes? How many people will be deceived into pouring their hard-earned money into the hands of fake pastors? Nigerian media should be more vigorous in driving sanity into the churches just as it happened in America and Britain. We cannot leave the battle to God. We should also try to sanitise our society especially the church where some pastors behave as if they are God.

The rate at which Nigerian pastors bombard us at the British and American embassies for visa is embarrassing. What are they gaining in going there? Is it Christ or money?

I think we need to be careful about the way we talk and respond to issues here. Pastors are called by God. Those who are called know themselves. Those who call themselves also know themselves. But I think the judgment of any pastor or condemnation of them does not lie in the hands of anybody. Let us leave them till Jesus comes rather than this blanket condemnation Ii read here.
I also think the publishers of these magazine should not just publish any response. They should publish comments that promotes Christianity, responses that edify the soul. If this is not done, the devil might hijack the beautiful magazine from Africa to destroy pastors and their Churches. I will find time to call the publisher, Bola. I got your name from about us page and your numbers from content page. We need to talk please.

I hope the editors of this magazine will not listen to sentiments. I have not seen anything wrong in what Okogie said neither do I see anything wrong in publishing criticisms of church or Pastors. Paul criticized Peter. Christianity thrived on the criticism of traditions and ideas that do not uplift God. We all live and grow by holding divergent views. Christians must tolerate other peoples views.
I hope the telephone conversation with Roseline will be published, otherwise, let Roseline air her views openly here. Be bold.
Thanks you,

Not all pastors are called. Some are called by their bellies. Some were sent. Others went. We need to pray for discernment to know the right ones. Why is it that with the increase in churches all over then world, immoralities keep increasing? That is because power is diminishing in the churches, right from the pulpits. We need to pray harder.

It is of course quite alarming that what most pastors and men of God are after is money, draining the poor milking them of what is left of them in this hardship stricken times we are in in this country. My prayer is that God will open the eyes of men to know those that He has called to do His work.
