Christain Association of Nigeria insists

The Christian Association Nigeria (CAN) has described the South-south geopolitical zone's quest to produce the next Nigerian president in 2007 as a legitimate one, owing to the fact that it has supported the country economically.

CAN's National Secretary, Samuel Salifu, stated this at the inauguration service for the new executives of the Southsouth zone of the CAN in Port Harcourt, Rivers State yesterday. Salifu explained that Southsouth geopolitical zone's insistence on producing the president of the country could not be faulted since it was the only zone that has not produced a Nigerian president since 1960.

In addition to this, he said the Niger Delta has also continued to supply the milk that refreshes the country's economy. Describing the agitation of the zone as legitimate. It said the zone has attracted the sympathy of the Nigerian church, which believes in equity, justice and fair play . He then, admonished the rest sections of the country and the political parties to give serious consideration to the zone's desire to produce the president.

CAN's Southsouth zonal chairman, Apostle Geoffrey Dabibi Numbere, called on the major ethnic nationalities to cease seeing themselves as being superior to others. According to him, the majority tribes and the self opinionated class, should henceforth, come out of their 'master-servant' mentality as see everyone as an equal partner in the Nigerian project. Adding "we want to see ourselves as simply 'Nigerians' wherever we come from and wherever we find ourselves in the nation".
