Back to main story
I have always known that the Catholic oath of celibacy cannot stand the test of time. Except those who call themselves priests in the Catholic Church are not human.
Alexander Imasuen,
London.
I congratulate Father Godfrey Silvester Siundu for not deceiving himself.
Adebola Theophilus,
Plaistow,

This is a great story. Thank you elifeonline.com for bringing it to our notice. Here in Nigeria, we have a Catholic priest who has had three children long before it was discovered. I think the Catholic people need to re-assess their tenets and principles. As long as we are human, that lizard in our trousers must nod its head!
Alabi Olowoporoku
Ondo Nigeria.
Whoever thinks all we priests are fools? Tell me if the disciples do not have families? That Jesus did not marry does not mean we should force those of us who want to be priests in the Catholic fold to be celibate. Some of us want to marry. This idea can't last for long.

I have always noticed that this magazine is anti-Catholicism. The last time in one of your editions, you published a story that said we Catholics ask Holy Mary for forgiveness. The fact is we can't all be pent-rascals, sorry, pentecostal. The bible is opened for all to read. If we chose to be celibates, that is our doctrine. Even if some of our priests violate the oath they took willingly, they have a case to answer before God because nobody forced them to become priests in the first place. Please, the concept of elifeonline.net is good. The e-magazine should be seen to be favourable to all denominations. We can't all be pente-rascals!
Father Okonkwo,
Nigeria.
Don't always be anti-Catholics! Why must you publish matters that degrade our church?
Mercy,
Lagos.
Elifeonline.net is not established to attack any denominations. We have not, and we will never, attacked any religion or denomination. Readers expressions of their own opinions on any issue should not be interpreted as the opinion of elifeonline.net The said wedding indeed occurred in Kenya. It was no concocted. The pictures speak for themselves. Editor
Oath of celibacy cannot hold in this 21st century. Not with what these girls wear to churches these days! Except you want to tell me that the priests are blind or have been castrated. I am a Catholic but we should not deceive ourselves.
Emeka Anyawu.
Kaduna, Nigeria.
It was good you got all the pictures to show us what happened. But for these pictures, I would have said its a lie. The Catholics should stop living as if they are gods. We are all human.
Terry Ellison,
Liverpool
Congratulations, Reverend Father for showing the way. Please give us an interview with him and the white man who wedded them. I'm so curious about them. I can't wait.
Mason,
New York.
I am so shocked to read this story. But I think now that some priests can flay the idea of celibacy in the open, the Catholic Church needs to sit down and ask themselves if the idea is still relevant in this 21st century. Left to me, we can be married and still preach the gospel. Remaining celibates cant work. I see more and more catholic priests leaving the church.
Isaac Okonkwo,
Lagos.
Could you please interview the priest who got married? He is a sincere man of courage. Have a great honeymoon.
Winnie James,
Sun City,
SA.
I think this is a simple matter. Celibacy is a cherished principle of the Catholics. The Father who got married knows this before signifying his intention to become a priest. If its not okay for him again, he could have simply opted out rather than destroying a value we cherish in our church. Those who think by doing this they are destroying the foundation of Catholicism are only joking. The Church is the biggest in the world and it will continue to be so. The gates of hell cannot prevail over us. Amen
Father Matthew,
Accra, Ghana.
Even Jesus had a rebel. So having a rebel in the Kenyan Catholic church is nothing to bother about.
Father Silican Mall,
Rome, Italy
Kudos to the rebel. Kudos. The era of self deceit is gradually coming to an end.
Kenny Loe,
Bahamas.
I think you are being sponsored by your pentecostal patrons to run down the Catholic Church. Right from the first day I visited this site, I knew it has a pentecostal bent. But you and your sponsors can't succeed. The Catholic Church and its cherished belief in celibacy has remained strong for over 400years. The pentecostal churches cant withstand such longevity. So the current wave of criticism and rebellious acts from Kenya and anywhere cant shake the church.
Sister Anthonia,
Calabar Nigeria.
Let the Father enjoy his marriage, its better than wetting his bed every night and suffering in silence. Its better than secretly dating the lady, meeting themselves in dark places and having illicit affairs. Let all priests who cannot stop wetting their beds follow the Kenyan priests to the altar. Good story of a bold action.
Yomi Adeola,
Lagos.
Father Siundu has done a very honorable thing. After all when God created a man, He said it was not good for man to live alone! Marriage is God ordained and God designed. Among those who have graduated today for priesthood in Nairobi, most of them will join the rebel group soon. Kudos Father for not deceiving yourself!
Joseph Mbugua,
Kiambu Kenya,
My attention was drawn to this website by my pastor who, while preaching on marriage, mentioned this Catholic priest's wedding and this website. This is a good website and this story, an interesting read. I also have no doubt in my mind that this celibacy thing cannot go on for long. I was born a Catholic, but I am now a member and deacon in the Redeemed Christian Church of God. My eyes have been opened to the values of matrimony. While I am not condemning the Catholics for what they believe in, we need to look at the viability of oath of celibacy. I have no doubt in me that those who are faithful to their oath of celibacy are so few that it warrants a reconsideration of that convention, if not outright cancellation.
Deacon ALfred Alawaye,
Ibadan Nigeria.
Nobody has any right to condemn the Catholic for what they believe in. The father who go married has done a most honourable thing by not fooling himself. But let them give their church another name, not Catholic. Celibacy has worked for the Catholics for ages and that is why we still have Catholicism till date. Those who go about with anointing oil, handkerchiefs which the call mantle, night vigils, etc, let us see if all this will last. Celibacy does not guarantee heaven, neither does anointing oil or prosperity preaching. We need to tolerate our values and let things be.
Ishaya Danladi,
Zaria Nigeria.
This Father has opened a pandora box. I enjoy all these contributions. But Celibacy can withstand this 21st century. I am sure that before 2050, it will be gone. Quote me.
Malungi Mason,
Zimbabwe.
These Catholics have contributed to the shortage of men, that is why someone like me is still single at 37. But I know God will not forget me.
Helen Eto Paul,
London.
Let the Catholic priests tell me how they feel when they wake up each morning with their chairman nodding for action! Once their minds yearns for action, they have sinned.
Frazier Boller,
Chicago.
Hello Mr Boller, here, we don't tolerate pornography both in words and pictures. We have edited your contributions to suit the temper of this magazine. Thanks. Editor
Let us vote
in the Catholic Church if celibacy should be retained. For me, its no to celibacy. Let them marry so we can relate to the wives of our priests.
Mercy,
London.
Let the world be aware that very soon, the revolution in the Catholic church will start from Kenya. So many of us who just left the seminary will soon get married in tens and twenties. This celibacy thing does not mean much to we young priests in Kenya. We hope to have friends to lead this change in the Catholic Church from Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Uganda and many other progressive countries.
Anonymous,
Nairobi, Kenya.
The minds of so many young Catholic priests here in Lagos are made up on marriage. I am sure oath of celibacy can't last another five years. It is really unpopular but nobody is really ready to bell the cat now.
Sunday,
Lagos.
Thank God for Father Siundu. He has shown the way. We hope to follow shortly.
Friday Lancelot,
Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
Nobody can destroy the values of the Catholic Church. Not from Kenya, not from America, not even from the Vatican itself. The gates of hell shall not prevail.
Thambo Oliver,
Jo'burg, SA.
The pope must comment of this wedding and the Reformed Catholic Church. We have heard of Charismatic Catholic all over Africa, but what is this called Reformed Catholic Church? Who are the people behind it? What is their purpose? What are they opposing now? Who is the modern day Martin Luther? Elifeonline.com/net ? should please give us more stories on this. By the way, do you have a correspondent in Kenya?
Martin Shawn,
Maryland, US.
I have no doubt in me that if celibacy is not thrown over-board, we might soon be short of priests in the Catholic Church. Which parent will allow his child not to give him grand children? The idea is obsolete. The Vatican needs a kind of Lambeth conference on this, while the sisters should go for another Beijing conference.
Usoro Kingsley,
Italy.
I am very much in support of it, it is better the priests get married in the open than fornicating secretly.
Amaka Iroanya, Nigeria.
The Lord bless you for your good work. We hope that more Catholic priests who are fornicating will be bold to own up and go get married. It will be funny to find priests in hell, you know!
Marady Sill,
Cairo, Egypt
May God give us the grace to do His will at all times. Celibacy is man made. I have found no where in the Bible where it is a must that we must be celibates to preach the gospel. The Catholic Church has discouraged so many of us who are Catholics and yet want to marry from, serving the Lord as priests. Some of us have left the Church for other churches for this reason. Now that we have the Reformed Catholic Church, the church will grow like a wild fire in the dry bush. It is not a curse but a decent prediction and wish. Amen.
K Moi,
Nairobi, Kenya.
We hope to curb this nonsense called Reformed Catholic shortly!
Mason, Italy.
Its a free world. Those who desire to follow the new church could do so. At the end of the day, its those who enters heaven that is right.
Biko Emmanuela,
Natal SA.
Have seen the pictures of the wedding on your sister site, www.xtophotos.net. Great job that you have a correspondent in Kenya. This site is a pride to us in Africa. Even me in Kenya did not see the pictures. God has used an online journalist in Nigeria to show them to me.
The lesson in this wedding is that people are getting more matured daily. Many people desire to leave living in sin. If many of us could be bold as the priest, our life would be better.
Farah Jomo,
Nairobi.
I hope you will kindly focus on Christianity in Zambia too. This expose on the Kenyan wedding is a good omen to us that good things will come from Africa. Can I send in stories from here?
Mandate
Naden,
Zambia.
Please feel free to send in your stories as long as you know within you that its a true story. For details on how we do this, read here.
Editor.
This story is very interesting. It goes to show that no norm or values established without the consent of the people across generations and races will last forever. I congratulate the priest for being true to himself.
Mills Belafonte,
New Zealand.
