Nigerians celebrate Internet Evangelism Day
Report on Web Evangelism Workshop organized by the Youth Builders Initiative [YBI]

The Web Evangelism Workshop (WEW) organized by the Youth Builders Initiative (YBI) was held on Saturday May 6, 2006 at the Church Hall of Christ Apostolic Church (GHQ) in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State in Nigeria.

The WEW was organized for about 25 participants drawn from various churches. The objectives of the Workshop include:

•  To impart Youths especially Christian youth with information that will lead to their all round development and make them impact on the society. This is in line with goals of the YBI.
•  To mark the World Internet Evangelism Day.

Some of the topics covered during the workshop are:

•  Why Web Evangelism? Important highlights on the need for making use of the internet as a great tool in witnessing.
•  Internet Basics Introducing the participants especially those not very conversant with the use of the internet to the basic features of the Internet.
•  Dynamics of Internet Evangelism Discussions were held on the various approaches that can be adopted in witnessing on the Internet.
•  Chat Room /E-mail /Message Board Approach in Witnessing Involves practical sessions on using the chat room / email and the message board to communicate with contacts all over the world with the view of using such medium for witnessing.
•  Online Resources For Spiritual Development Participants were introduced to various sites where they can find resources for their spiritual development as well as further training on Web Evangelism.

The Workshop proved to be an eye-opener for many of the participants who were extremely excited about taking on the unlimited possibilities offered by the Internet in carrying out the fulfillment of the great commission.

The participants called for more Workshops of this kind to further expose them to activities that wil assist them in fulfilling God's purposes for their lives. These requests are being given serious considerations by the Youth Builders Initiative.

The Youth Builders Initiative give glory to God and those who gave spiritual and moral support for the success of the programme.

The Workshop which commenced at about 9.30a.m. was rounded up at about 5.00p.m.

Effects of scam mails from Africa
An example of scam mails sent to Pastor Carley
Almost everyday when I open my e-mail inbox I receive an e-mail from some African trying to get me to enter into a transaction which will benefit me by millions. The text is so familiar that now I do not even have to read. All of then say they have been directed by God. On another front countless numbers of Nigerians fail to pay rent to the extent that Landlords are reluctant to enter into arrangements preferring the more reliable East Europeans.

As a Pastor of an Irish Pentecostal Church I have many Nigerian and Congolese brothers and sisters attending and have come to love and cherish them. It saddens me greatly that other Africans are dragging the name of Africa down into the gutter with the scams and the deceits.

The result is mistrust and an image of all African people being dishonest. This will reduce the chances of applications for residency being successful.

I would urge all African Pastor to preach strongly against these matters so that a true witness comes out from your people.

We are an integrated church where Black and White and all others worship freely together, God is blessing with His Holy Spirit.

Pastor Paul R. Carley,
Celbridge Pentecostal Church,
Kildare, Ireland

Beloved in Christ,

It is a priviledge to write to you and to relate my testimony.

I was a Moslem and a retired military top officer in Nigerian Army that served under the past military regime. I was the financial secretary to the Armed Force Ruling Council (AFRC). With my position as a financial secretary, I was able to divert up to $45,000,000.00 (Forty Five million U.S Dollars, into my personal Bank Account, hoping to invest the money when I'm retired.

Immediately I got retired, I was converted from Moslem to Christian when I was preached the words of God through my cousin Pastor Paul Osakwe. I then gave my life to Christ and became a born again Christian.

Since I gave my life to Christ, I had no rest of mind. Some times I think of the souls I killed when I was a soldier and the dubious ways I diverted my country's money into my Personal Bank Account. I then decided to seek the face of God for forgiveness and after fasting and prayer through Divine Revelation, the Almighty God revealed to me that the only way I could have rest of mind is when I used all my money to do the work of God. I immediately disclosed my revelation to my Pastor and he was happy with me.

I have been thinking of the particular thing to do for my God before this present civilian president of my country set up a panel (Economic And Financial Crime Commision) to probe the Bank Account of the past Military officers like me. Instead of loosing this money to my government, I quickly withdrew my money out of my Account and deposited the money in a finance and security company for safety.

My Pastor has adviced me to sneak out of the country with the money to sow it into a ministry abroad. I have decided to sow this money into your ministry. I am making arrangement to come over to your country but you need to receive this money from the finance and security company in cash before I come over.

The cash has been packaged by the security company in consignments and ready for shipment but the security company requires the address of the receiver. Please send to me your names, address and your telefax number where I can fax the Airway Bill to you for claim of the consignment over there.

I look forward to your response.
God bless you.

DEACON FEMI THOMAS
