"One would almost be right to say that Obasanjo did not fire a bullet but the war ended when he got there. Is this not a favour from heaven?

Have you ever wondered why and how Nigeria's Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Matthew Ousegun Aremu Obasanjo goes free and moves triumphantly where angels are afraid to tread?
Have you also considered the man's boldness and daring moves in the face of stiff opposition? The history and factors behind his successes in so many area he did not labour for is rooted in history. Uncomfired sources revealed that the man is a covenant child.
What do we regard as his successes? How did he come about them? Where is the covenant coming in? Let us trace this history one after the other.
According to a prophet in a Lagos church, "Obasanjo came to limelight because the Biafran warlards led by Moses Effiong capitulated to him. But in reality, did Obasanjo fight any war? Records showed that he was in India for the better part of the war. When he came back, he was pushed to take over from fatigued Brigadier Benjamin Adekunle (Black Scorpion) at the Nsukka front. By that time, the war was nearly over. Obasanjo took the glory and entered into history books as the man who won the war for Nigeria, when actually those who fought and won the war were the like of Alabi Isima, Mohammed Shuwa, Murtala Mohammed, Black Scorpion, Alani Akinrinade, etc."
"One would almost be right to say that Obasanjo did not fire a bullet but the war ended when he got there. Is this not a favour from heaven?
"Much after the war" the prophet continued, "he became the commissioner of works. All the money Obafemi Awolowo saved as Federal Commissioner for Finance, during war period, it was Obasanjo who spent it on building Lagos. Many Nigerians are praising General Gowon for building all the bridges, unknown to them that the Commissioner in charge, who oversaw all of it was Obasanjo."
"When the 1975 coup took place, Obasanjo knew nothing about it. Murtala knew about it and promised to save the neck of the coupist if it failed. It was planned by Danjuma, Yar-adua and Joseph Garba. Yet, he emerged as the Deputy Head of State then called Chief of Staff Supreme Headquaters" Was this not divine?
"As if these were not enough, his boss was soon killed in a counter coup and he, as he said 'reluntantly' became the Head of State. In fact in his acceptance speech, he said it was his saddest day."
"He soon conducted a most controversial election in 1979 and handed over to a sleepy Alhaji Shehu Shagari. Mere handing over to a civilian government had his name written in gold. He did what no military in the whole of Africa had achieved. What General Gowon lost, Obasanjo gained."
Young Olusegun was there working for the lender until he was able to complete the money. As soon as Olusegun's father got hold of the money, he went to buy the roofing sheets and made it available to the church, employed carpenters and ensured that the church building was roofed.

"Even in that 1979 election" the prophet continued, "he turned himself into a pariah in Yoruba land by going against Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Between 1979 and 1999, Obasanjo was much hated in Yoruba but can we say that today? Who has had a
head-on collision with Obafemi Awolowo and lived to tell a good story? Obasanjo has broken that thread effortlessly."
"He rose again against another Egba man, Chief Abiola. He subsequently went to prison where he saw death in it raw form but he did not die. Rather than die there, he was always protected by people you never believe would associate with him, the likes of Bola Ige.
"His release was fought for by the human rights constituency he much hated. When he came out, he did not only shun and forget that constituency, he went ahead to benefit from the struggles of that constituency, NADECO, Afenifere, etc and lapped on the misfortunes of MKO Abiola's to become head of State!. How do you explain this if not divine?
"He was not voted for by his kin's men. In fact, he lost in his ward and yet he emerged as Head of State. He was said to have agreed to run after being 'begged to come and save Nigeria'. "That he became Nigeria's head of state for the second time is unprecedented. Not this alone, he is rooting for a third term which is believed not to be too far from his finger tips.

"His luck does not end there. Obasanjo is perceived as a most unserious husband and father. Having fathered over 20 children today, (some of which are still toddlers) unconfirmed reports emerging from some of his over 10 wives and concubines who have children for him have it that he does not often bother about their finances. But today, their mothers have trained so many of them that he Obasanjo could point at doctors, lawyers and so many graduates as children.
"How else could one describe such blessings if not a deliberate decision of God to favour him? Such favours, according to the prophet, does not come just like that. It must have been provoked by some singular acts, either by him or his forebears.
Church leaders in some spiritual churches have revealed the power behind President Obasanjo and his survival instincts. The secret, according to this revelation, is divine. It was said that Obasanjo is a covenant child, that the Lord God watches over him hence his survival.
The story, according to revelations purportedly told by an elderly person in the President's village and as revealed to a man of God is that in young Olusegun's village, there was a church construction project going on and there was the urgent need to roof the house but there was no sufficient money to buy the roofing sheets. The option that was left was to go and take a loan to buy the iron sheets, and Olusegun Obasanjo's father who had the zeal for the work of God had to go and take a loan from a rich man in the village.
"As it was customary in those days, if anyone wanted to take such loans, you would have to deposit somebody to work until you can pay the money back, or for somebody to work for the payment of the loan, and this was when Olusegun's father presented the boy, who would in future become the president of Nigeria, to slave for the payment of the loan.
"Young Olusegun was there working for the lender until he was able to complete the money. As soon as Olusegun's father got the money, he went to buy the roofing sheets for the church, employed carpenters and did the work.
"It was told that when the minister in charge, a Catechist then, saw what Olusegun's father had done, he was filled with joy and heartily prayed for the man and the boy who slaved for the loan. God was said to be very happy about this and He answered the pastor's prayers.
"It was revealed that God promised to take him to levels that had not been attained by his forebears and give him all the desires of his heart. Little wonder then that he has recorded so many firsts in his life time and been walking triumphantly out of troubles that have consumed other people.

"He has spent the first four years, and has almost completed the second term. This is a feat nobody has ever achieved in Nigeria. It is even believed in some quarters that if he actually want a tenure elongation, the Lord would grant him, as he was only advised to use it for the common good and improvement of the poor ones, the very background where God lifted him.
