Over and over again, Church Growth Research have confirmed the number one status of the pastor to the growth of the Church. The pastor is not the church, but God has decided not to do anything worthwhile in the church in the absence of the pastor. In the economy of God, the pastor figure as No. 1.
The message of Jesus to the seVen churches in Asia Minor were directed to the pastors - angels-of those churches (Rev. 2:1- 8,.12,18; 3:17,17). The pastors were of much importance to Jesus than anything else. Growth in the church and ministry is largely determined by the personality of the pastor.
In this teaching, we are trying to bean our searchlight on those habits that separate great pastors from good ones. A. Definition: A habit is a repeated behaviour - something so customary that you can do, without thinking about it. We are all creatures of habit. Great effectiveness in life consists of doing some little things consistently. Effectiveness mean making impact, being result orinted and life transforming.
1. There are harmful, unhealthy habits that ruin pastors, such as over-eating, moral lapses, failure to keep appointments, laziness and procrastination, insensitivity, talking too much and prayerlessness. Many pastors remain at small, good and average levels in their pastoral ministry as a result of these harmful habits.
2. There is a whole world of difference between effectiveness and efficienty. One can be efficient in preaching, praying, study, can general ministry activities without necessarily being effective. Efficiency is being routine, monotony, mechanical and lifeless motion. But efficiency is concerned with mighty impact and result. Healthy habits of high effective pastors speak of those things that enable them to create mighty impact, growth, results, breakthrough and life transformation.
