"The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstance they want, and, if they can't find them, make them." - George Bernard Shaw
Start the process of firing your boss where you are. Use what you have. I was ministering along this line in a big regional church, when a young lady member of the planning committee, that invited me shared her story. She started her part-time business selling "Kunnu", a local fruit drink, with forty naira (N40:00). Two years later she made enough from the sales to buy herself a beautiful Mercedes Benz (VBoot) with air conditioner in place and an attractive leather interior. All this time she was teaching English Language in a government senior secondary school. She sold her "Kunnu" to her students during break time.
What you can do now is the only influence you have over your future. The truth is, you already have been given what you need to begin to create your future. Don't find yourself saying, "If only I had this...If only things were more different...If only I had more money... then I would do what I am supposed to do."
Never let what you think you can't do keep you from doing what you can do. Do the possible, then allow God to 80 the impossible.
Don't make the mistake of looking too far ahead and miss the things close by. Think big, but start small. Zechariah 4: 10, For who hath despised the days of small things? True greatness consists of being great in little things. Happiness will never come to those who fail to appreciate what they have handy.
Take that first step where you are, with what you have. "It does not take great courage to take one step", said a 63 year old woman who decided to walk from Lagos to Borin, a distance of four hundred kilometers. She revealed, "I just took one step, and then I took another and another and here I am".
How to fire the first shots determine your definite major aim in life
1. Definiteness of purpose is the starting point of all achievement. Select you own targets. Ask yourself, "What is my goal? What do I really want?" 98 out of 100 people who are dissatisfied with their world do not have clear pictures in their minds of the world they would like for themselves.
Apostle Paul underscored the importance of goal setting in the following words, Of course my brother, I really do not think that I have already won it, the one thing I do, however, is to forget what is behind me and do my best to reach what is ahead. So I run straight towards the goal in order to win the prize which is God's call through Christ Jesus to the life above. Philippians 3:13-14 (Good News) When you can name your goal at every point in time, the following advantages come almost automatically.
(a). It activates your faith as your intended destination is imprinted on your spirit man.
(b). It helps you get into action
(c). Work now become fun. You are motivated to pay the price
(d). You become alerted to opportunities that will help you achieve your objectives as they present themselves. Because you know what you want, you are more likely to recognize these opportunities.
2. Start small on small scale.
Knowing where you are going is not enough to fire your boss - you need to learn the secret of starting small. You will never do great things if How To Fire Your Boss And Hire Yourself you can't do small things in a great way.
Everything big starts with something small. There are no big shots anywhere. Big shots are small shots who keep on shooting.
Start doing something about your dream, however small, immediately. Nothing great is created suddenly. Our church building committee once presented an initial estimate of 5 million Naira for building our temporary church auditorium. As at that time all that our newly planted church could afford was N5, 000 (Five Thousand Naira only). I summoned the committee and encouraged them to start with what we had. Astounded, the committee chairman queried my gesture with such pittance. I, in turn, asked to know how far our N5, 000 could go in the building project. When the committee noticed that I was really serious and unyielding about my offer, he remarked, "This can only clear the site". I then enthused, "Go ahead and clear". The clearing took three days and we still had about N2, 000 remaining. I announced to the congregation, "Work has started on your building site" This drew support and we got the building construction underway in a short time.
Small opportunities are often the beginning of great enterprises. People who are too big to do small things are perhaps two small to see big things. Zechariah 4: 10. For who hath despised the day of small things?
As I mentioned in my book on "HOW TO DO BUSINESS WITH LITTLE OR NO MONEY" (you will do yourself a favour by getting yourself a copy of this best seller), there are great advantages of starting small.
TEN GREAT ADVANTAGES OF STARTING SMALL.
1. It provides you with experience and confidence with a small operation.
2. You are able to monitor and observe progress.
3. You wake mistakes in a small scale unnoticed by many people.
4. You can experiment and adapt quickly.
5. You avoid waste with small scale.
6. You overcome idleness and boredom. Small operations keep you busy, and hungry for growth. Big operations, keep you waiting till you get the next big breakthrough or big patronage.
7. You can respond faster to situations. Small operation is not weighed down with red tape and complexity of big operations. You can put out smaller fires associated with small operations.
8. You have greater flexibility.
9. You don't need as much capital to start something small, thus overcoming "No capital syndrome" tying down many great-business ideas.
10. You can start to raise your own capital as you grow.
Don't worry about the size of your project or dream; just take steps that get you beyond the starting point. Soon you will get to. a point of no return. Prolonged idleness paralyzes initiatives. Too much analysis of the situation leads to paralysis of ideas.
You don't need more strength, ability or opportunity. Use what you have. The impossible is simply the untried. Don't be afraid to take small steps. Do something, anything, everything, provided it is moving forward and toward your aim and dream of becoming independent of salaried existence. A German proverb states "Grow where you are planted. Begin to weave, and God will give the thread",
3. Overcome procrastination.
Success must be continuously practiced, or it will take wings and flyaway. What you can do now, don't push to tomorrow. Procrastination is the grave in which opportunity is buried. When a procrastinator has finally made up his mind, the opportunity has usually passed by. What you put off until tomorrow you will probably put off tomorrow too. Success comes to the man who does today what others were thinking of doing tomorrow.
Write that letter now. Make the phone call now. Let everyday, from today pay its due towards your goal in life. Take baby steps instead of giant steps to break procrastination. To write a book, don't wait till your mood is right to write. Take one page and write daily. At the end of the year you would have at least 300 page book, that is no longer a pamphlet.
Eliminate all excuses for not taking action. The lazier a man is, the more he is going to do the next day, and someday. There is no day of the week named "someday". A wiseman once said, "By the street of by and by, one arrives at the house of never". The door of opportunity won't open unless you push. Get aggressive. Go for it. Opportunities are waiting on you. Stop waiting or you waste.
4. Don't expect favourable conditions
No one ever made a success of anything by first waiting for all the conditions to be "just right" Ecclesiastes 11:4 (Living Bible). Ifyou wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done.
As ideas burn in your heart and fire up in your spirit and you have checked it is from God, then strike while it is hot.
Most people who wait and sitting around for their ship to come in find it is a hardship. John Mason said "B y the time the hesitant person has learned to play the game, the players have dispersed, the rules have changed." Don't find yourself striking when the iron is cold. Instead, scratch opportunity when and where it itches. You postpone your, life when you can't make up your mind.
5. Use every opportunity well.
Ephesians 5: 16 Make good use of every opportunity you have, because these are evil days. (Good News).
You never have a second chance to make a good first impression. Be all you can be where you are. What you do with your present assignment is your testimonial for the next promotion.
Elisha served Elijah to the best of his abilities. Elijah's best miracle of parting the Jordan River became Elisha's See yourself as all apprentices on your present job. Learn all you could on your assignment. It is what you do with the opportunities before you that will determine your fortune later in life. Opportunities multiply as they are seized; they die when neglected.
Don't do your duties as a hobby; give every assignment the double dose treatment. Success means doing the best we can with what we have. Small opportunities come in the way of standing in for your boss when he is away. You might be asked to lead a delegation, propose a toast or give a vote of thanks. Do it well to the best of your abilities.
A lizard in Lagos cannot suddenly become a crocodile in London . The best way to better your lot in life is to do a lot better on the lot in life you have been given. Proverbs 22:29 (Living Bible) Do you know a hardworking man? He shall be successful and stand before Kings.
Begin somewhere, where you are, with what you have. You cannot fulfil your destiny on what you intend to do.
