How do you think one gets to know God better than before?
The only way by which you know God better is through his word. His word is an expression of God. That is the thing he has left behind for us to make us know him better. As you study the word of God under the influence of the Holy Spirit, you are going to get to know God better. And also if you fellowship with the people of God, people who can guide you, who can help you and who can share their own experience with you of who God is and thing like that. You also derive something from there. But it must always be based on the word of God; and it must be based in the balanced way in the word of God.

What can one do to the improve one's prayer life?
To improve your prayer life, you had to make some decisions. You have to make some determinations. You have to say to yourself that whatever it is that is not going to alone you to have an effective prayer life, you are going to have to drop such things. It must be your own decision, it's not easy to say I'll prescribe. If you do this, if you do that, you will improve your prayer life. Fast of all, it must be your own decision that your prayer life must improve.
After that we can talk about some things that will make prayer more interesting. For example as you base your prayer posits on the word of God, as you learn to visualize when you are praying it's good to visualize what you are praying for. For example, as you come before God, you are making some requests or petitions. Visualize yourself as somebody who is an advocate or a lawyer in a law court and you have your bible open. And the bible is your reference, these are the things you are quoting and you are referring to.
That you are using to claim things from God. We'll come to all of that, but first and foremost, you must make a commitment about your prayer life which would lead you to make some decisions that would imply some discipline on yourself. "To make my prayer life what it ought to be, should be disciplined in this area, I should be disciplined in the area. This thing can no loner exist in my life. I must cut this, I must cut that off". Thing like that.
