Longe: More commitment...

More commitment, more successes
Rev. Biola Longe

If you are pursuing your goal and you are not achieving or accomplishing, check your level of commitment to that endeavour. Vince Lombardi says, “The quality of a person's life is in direct proportion to his commitment, regardless of his chosen field of endeavor.” Today, many Holy Ghost filled children of God are not excelling in their vocations. Likewise, many great and lofty goals, aspirations and visions are
unrealized. This is not because God is not in them or that it is sinful to have vision or set goals but simply because the setters of these goals are not committed to them.

In Mark 10: 17-23, that young rich ruler had the best of intension; wanting to inherit eternal life. He even had gone far in fulfilling some of the conditions. But he lacked the courage to give more. He fainted when he shouldn't have. This story is still the same for many people today, they quit or give up too soon.

Accomplishment or achievement does not come by accident. Yes! It takes strong decision backed by dogged commitment. Ordinary people, the likes of Peter, John and others who made simple ministerial commitments under the Lordship of Jesus Christ made an extraordinary impact on their world.

Commitment is the ability to stay-on to one's goal, especially when the going gets tough. No doubt, we need this ability in life to withstand the increasing rage of the devil against our life aspirations. Commitment is a propelling force in life and ministry. Dr. John C. Maxwell says “Commitment keeps me going when things get tough”. Commitment connotes dedication, involvement and devotedness to a definite cause. You must be involved body, soul and spirit.

People do not follow hopes, they follow tangible commitment. Commitment is a quality of successful people in the secular and in the church ministry. “Commitment (persistence) is one of the five competencies common to all super leaders” , says Dr. Warren Bennis. We need commitment more than any group of people to make success of our individual pursuit.

Some times, life is just a matter of holding on. Difficult situations will arise, some brought by the devil and some allowed by God as indicated by Apostle Paul in Romans 8: 35-39. You must not be troubled by the first sign of trouble. Problem is part of life, it has hidden possibilities.

Commitment is note a fruit or gift of the Spirit. Commitment is by choice. You can choose to be committed and be successful or accept mediocrity and become ordinary. Mediocrity is the opposite of commitment. It is being contented with the present level. Such as the actions of the likes of the rich young ruler. We should learn from and emulate the commitment of athletes, footballers, politicians and businessmen, who in the presences of many failures still continue their game.

One of the reasons for mediocrity is the fear of failure. Don't be afraid of failure. Failure is not final. Success does not consist in never making a mistake but in never learning from it. Thomas J. Watson, the founder of IBM asked, “Do you want to be successful? Then double your failure rate. The more times you fail and learn from those failures the faster you achieve success”. Without failure, no success is possible. If you keep on keeping on or increase your commitment level nothing in the world can stop you from achieving your goals.
