Having read the Quran and bible very well, no one can

- Animashaun Oladimeji

Pastor Animashaun Oladimeji, The Later House of Glory, Mushin Lagos
Animashaun Oladimeji is a preacher of the gospel, young in age, but versed in reading and old in wisdom. God has shown him so many things that when you engaged him in a discussion, he is not short of words and the Word to capture and express an imagination. Pastor of The Later House of Glory, Mushin Lagos, he belongs to the new order of Christians, the energetic foot soldiers the Lord is using to save souls in this end time. Having been converted from Islam to Christianity, he acted like the Berean Christians, searching and reading the bible to confirm the words preached by his teachers. Only under 21st Century preachers like this can one ensure robust growth in the world and in the Word. In this interview, Animashaun takes a look at some issues in Christendom. Excerpts.

How did your conversion from Islam to Christianity happen?
One day I was going go look for a girlfriend who used to be a Catholic. On the street, I heard a voice said to me ‘look' and I looked in the direction as if the voice was pointing to one direction, and I saw a big poster of one Evangelist Falade. I later found out he was a Evangelist at Gospel Faith Mission International, (GOFAMINT). Then they were having a crusade at Matori, an area in Mushin Lagos Nigeria.
In my heart as a Moslem, I said what do I have to do with these Christians? And the voice spoke to me that go to where you're going, get a bible and come back here. So I got the bible and came back to where I saw the poster. The voice told me again, ‘Look to the left, follow the people'. There were some ladies there and I followed them. That was how I got to the crusade ground.
The only thing I could remember much later was that I fell down, they gave me a form to fill and I went back home. After the experience, the voice kept speaking to me. I began to read the bible over and over again until the Church members traced me to my house with the form I filled. That was how they invited me to church.

How did you progress from being a church goer to the ministry?
I had a lot of questions on doctrinal issues in the churches I used to attend. I would ask question in the Sunday school class about the rules and regulations. I will go back to the bible and study, so I saw that the things we do and preach in the Church completely contradict the bible. So I concluded that mst of the Churches have their own gospel, different from that of Christ. So a decision was there for me to take, which gospel to follow. The gospel of the church or the gospel of Jesus Christ. That was what propelled me to look for answers for the many questions in my heart. I began to buy and listen to various tapes by preachers i respect, and read gospel books. All these assisted me to decipher the truth about life.

Did you ever imagine you would be called to be pastor?
Not at all, like the plan of every young man, go to school and get a good job. That was all i thought, but I tried to be a good Christian. All I wanted was to know God. Though I come from a Moslem background, I was hungry and thirsty for the truth and that led me into christianity. From the church where I started, Gospel Faith Mission, I went into deep bible studies. I was that hungry that I would attend any bible study any where and the church leaders in Gospel Faith Mission then used to tell me I was committing spiritual adultery. But I knew I was getting substance, good leading from such bible studies. I continued to attend those bible studies in various places, I think that built my faith until the calling came.

I have heard so my church goers, Christians including some Christian leaders that the Christians and Moslems are serving the same God. Coming from an Islamic background into Christianity, are we really serving the same God?
Well, I don't know why they say that, may be just of console themselves. Someone has said to me also. But coming from an Islamic background to Christianity, and having read the Quran and the bible very well, no one can tell me we worship the same God. Jesus will say ‘Love your enemies, give them food', Islam will tell you, Jihad, kill your enemies. The heart of God is not that anyone should perish. You can not fight for God. In Islam they believe they can fight for God. Whatever they do, they do it for God. Who are you to fight for God? You can now know its not the same God that sent the so-called two prophets. Jesus is not a prophet, he is the son of God, God himself.

You must have listened to sermons across many churches. How do you asses the sermons, are you satisfied with their qualities?
Not with so many of these teachings. The question we should ask is that ‘can this gospel save? With all the things you're heard about pastors, you will see that their gospel can not even save them. The pastors think of large congregation, delve so much on money. We've deviated completely from the teaching of Christ. We interpret the bible to please the pulpit and the pews. I don't think we have done well as pastors and churches in this country.

There are feelings that some big names in the pastoral fold don't hear from God any longer because they are caught in traveling from one continent of the world to the other. Many believe the young pastors have time for God. Do you feel the younger generation of churches leaders are doing well?
It is not a matter of comparing which generation is better. The truth is that God has used them. But what I will say is that may we always know our exit point. Some pastors of the old generation need to have exited and turn the baton to the younger generation. But the damages they have done are still with the younger generation.
In this part of the world, we love to follow personalities, names. They have done a lot of damage. Generation has nothing to do with age. There are some people older in age that know what God is saying for now. It's the same God that told Abraham to sacrifice his son and later said don't kill him anymore. But when people believe this is how we used to do it, God has moved on. They will say this is how we used to do it, saying God is the same today, yesterday and forever. It is true but God is dynamic, not static. Christianity is not a monument and people have built a monument around people. When people begin to mix the purpose of God with their selfish ambition, then you have this confusion that we have now. A lot of these people were originally called but when you have attained a level of success, you now believe you have a formula.

How much of blame can go to the Church over the failure we have seen in Nigeria today?
One day, God told me that whatever we see in the society is a reflection of the church. We are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Even plants respond to light. The plant will bend in the direction of light. If you look at it when Christians started buying lands along Lagos/Ibadan express way, even Moslems started buying lands because that is the direction we're pointing. I believe that the direction we point, the world will follow. Every pastor now wants to have a private jet, what stops a senator from wanting to have a private jet? But when we begin to live a selfish life, others will follow.
You remember in those days when Reverend Fathers were principals of schools, even if their son needs five marks to qualify for admission, they would say wait till next year. But these days, we cannot even blame the world. The church has become so voiceless that we cannot correct people in government or in the society. If we look critically at ourselves and what we do in church, we don't have the audacity to correct. So whatever we see happening in the society today, I can say 95% of them were permitted by the Church. Look at the church today, we have failed and that is the truth.

What were you called to do ministry?
To correct the erroneous teachings in the church. God told me your fathers have failed me and he was talking about the fathers of faith and He has taken me around to see a lot of wrong doings in the church. I know God is beginning to deal this older generation that is why I said it doesn't have to do about age. Some of them are retracing their steps, they are coming back, they are revising their messages, correcting their wrongs. My assignment really is to correct many of the erroneous teachings and to put it in the proper perspectives. The church has disengaged itself from the society. If you don't put salt in food, you don't see the effect.
