Mount Zion Faith Ministries International:
Oppositions we went through
- Mike Bamiloye

Evangelist Mike Bamiloye is the Executive President of the Mount Zion Faith Ministries International, a prominent drama ministry in Nigeria. His humble disposition to life is enthralling. His great wealth of experience and versatility have placed him on the pedestal of leadership as the chairman, Board of Trustee (BOT) ANCEDRAM. In a no-holds barred interview with Bukola Oguntimehin and Jide Omileye, Evangelist Mike Bamiloye, spoke on some intimate facts about the ministry and the prospect of Christian drama in Nigeria .

In your early days in the ministry, what type of opposition did you face?
The first and of course the general one was non-acceptance. It was difficult for the church to accept full time drama ministry because they couldn't liken us to anything other than the likes of Ogunde, Baba Sala, Oyin Adejobi etc. and when they saw us, there was nothing attractive about us. They see us pulling bags, sacks, nylon bags and trekking to the venues of programmes.
Evangelist Mike Bamiloye

It was difficult for them to entrust their congregation to our ministrations. When they allowed us to minister, there would be no place to sleep except in the church talk less of offering us food.

Number two, there was no model, that is there was no ministry we could follow or go to for counseling or advice so we were just moving, trusting the Holy Spirit for guidance. Apart from these two, I can't just see any other opposition.

What about money?
That was no opposition because there was none in the first place.

Any opposition from home, family or friends?
There was a serious one from homes. I could count the number of members that were forced out of the ministry by their families. There were many brothers and sisters that were pulled out by their friends. The reason is simple, they weren't certain of the future.

My own family was an opposition, a very strong one. I had to be called to a family meeting where they spoke to me despitefully. I knew there would be opposition from home that was why I resigned my appointment without their Knowledge. I had a problem with my church too, though they were quick to understand after an explanation was made. The day I resigned my appointment, the first person I told was my pastor. He was shocked. He said, if I had come to him before l resigning, he would have stopped me but since I had already resigned, he asked me to kneel down and he prayed for me.

How come you have not backed out despite all these oppositions?
(Laughs) One can only back out if one had a choice. A person who backs out of the ministry is a person who has not counted the cost. When I was entering into full time ministry, the testimonies I used to hear about people serving God was that of suffering. Unlike these days when you see pastors riding big cars, and men of God living flamboyantly, the testimonies then was different.

So, I was prepared to suffer to the extent that two days to my resignation, I bought pop corn and filled a big tin of Bournvita with it, hoping to eat it if nothing was forth coming (Laughs). One day I challenged God and said: "Every thing I've been hearing about Nigeria ministers is suffering. But ministers abroad have better testimonies. "God, if you are the same God here and over there, then you must be partial." I remember I heard the word in my spirit at that time, it said 'its faith!' then I was determined to go by faith too.

"... If God has not spoken, you could fail. But without money, if God says one should do it, it means He has made a way for breakthrough.

Now, there is a difference between money and breakthrough. A little project can consume a lot of money without the abundance of favour and breakthrough..."
Evangelist and Mrs Mike Bamiloye.

What was your financial state like then?
It was by faith and determination then, we weren't selling anything. There was no massive drama ministration and we did not even rely on offering money because we might not be given. God was our provider and members were committed. So, there was no money then,- no sponsor, no patron, no godfather, but there was this divine supply some how. When the Lord gives a vision, He makes the provision available

What about now?
You see, I've come to learn that there is no level in the work of God. (May be there is another perspective or I'm yet to get to that particular level) where there will be abundance of money, because the Lord will always make sure He gives you a project that will consume more than the money you have, so that you'll have to look up to Him for help. So, you can see that there are no changes. It's still the same way we looked up to Him now. In fact now, challenges are more because much is expected from us. There are greater projects. Our mode operation hasn't changed too.

We have no partner, no patron, no sponsor we don't charge for drama outreaches. We h never changed anyway. The Lord is providing but the projects and assignments are getting higher, so we still have to look up to God help, the way we were looking up to Him then.

Is it advisable to embark on a project when there is little or no money on ground?
If the Lord has spoken that one should embark on a particular project, He has a way to make the project come to pass, so, it is not the amount you have in your hands that matters, but t instruction of God. You may have hundreds thousands in your account. If God has not spoken you could fail, but without money, if God says one should do it, it means He has made a way for breakthrough. Now, there is a difference between money and breakthrough. A little project can consume a lot of money without the abundance of favour and breakthrough.

Where is the place of faith in executing ministry project?
I don't think any tangible project for God can succeed without faith. Any project God gives, He will leave the place of faith in it. If the Lord says we should embark on a big project, and money and personnel are there, why would you pray?

God will give chance for prayers. It could be that the money is there, but the personnel are not available or vice-versa or you have limited time. There will be something that you will need to cry unto God for. I would like to say that there is a place of faith in any evangelical project because that is what distinguishes it from secular projects.

What is the secret of. Unity among the members of your ministry?
The love of God in the heart of every member. The desire to love and serve God; understanding the fact that this is a team work and we cannot succeed unless we work together in the same spirit and in love. That is the reason why if any thing goes wrong within the ministry, we don't keep it, we bring it to the open.

Whenever anybody is feeling somehow, he has the opportunity of voicing out his feelings. So, I would say that the secret of unity is love.

How do you handle negative reports and rumours about yourself and the ministry?
(Laughs) Well, it depends. If people ask questions especially on phone, we answer, but if they don't ask questions, we try not to make any explanations.

We keep quiet because we know that if what we hear isn't true, the true will surface one day. There was a time we were bothered about all sorts of negative reports, but the Lord told us that we should focus on the work and not allow distractions. So, we are no longer bothered about these reports.
