Buhari Congratulates Onaiyekan As CAN Leader
Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), Nigeria 's former military Head of States and Presidential flagbearer, All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP), has congratulated Most Rev. John Olorunfemi Onaiyekan, Catholic archbishop of Abuja , on his election as the new national president of Christian Association of Nigeria. John Onaiyekan is the Archbishop, Archdiocese of Abuja.

Buhari, in a congratulatory letter, said he received the news of the election with joy and gratitude to God, stressing that the honour was a well deserved one.
He further stated that he was satisfied, having closely observed Onaiyekan's activities, over the years, as a clergyman and his patriotic stand on the
socio-political events of the country.
The ANPP helmsman said he had respect for Onaiyekan. His words: "I have over the years closely observed your activities as a clergyman and your patriotic stand in the socio-political events of our country. Your ability to combine your preaching and practical action; with your humility has earned my respect for you. "Within the Catholic circle, you stand tall in the advocacy of good governance and transparency in Nigeria .
"Within the larger society, you stand tall in the promotion of unity and respect for all human being irrespective of faiths or ethnic background. Mercifully, you have not been deterred by blackmail or intimidation".
Buhari stated his belief that those of them in the political scene would continue to benefit from Onaiyekan's wisdom.
"I believe those of us in the political scene will continue to benefit from your wisdom. I pray God to guide you in the service of our fatherland", he prayed. |
