Many of you would have known that we held our elections in Nigeria recently. How much of an election that was is still a subject of controversy, at least not with all that happened at the primaries across the parties and what happened on the election days. How many people would say a free and fair election took place in Nigeria except the 'winners'
It is not surprising then that all the opposition parties are clamouring foul and calling for either an interim government or a new election. It is not also surprising hat many foreign countries and international organisations have not congratulated the 'winner'
However, for some of us who are very apolitical, a much fouled elections, needing a repeat electioneering is better than war. When the election was fast approaching, we all held our breath, bombarding God with prayers that may our country remain one. We bless the Lord that our prayers were not thrown back at us and our nation plunged into war by majority of our politicians many of whom are working hard to steal votes, steal our patrimony and run away when the chips are down.
But for patriotism, many of us would have suggested a return of the military because the braggadocio and recklessness with which some of these politicians steal our commonwealth is most stultifying. To so many of them, nothing evil had happened during the elections. So many people who should be in jail are shouting Praise the Lord. You need to see how some of them rush to church for 'thanksgiving' over winning elections. If politicking is to serve the people, we don't need all these do-or-die attitudes, these flurry of thanksgivings. There is more to politics and elections in Nigeria.
