Another thing is that C&S was not meant to be a Yoruba Church as it is seen today. The fact that it is common around the Yoruba area and is largely led by Yoruba people has hindered the programme of God for the church. Orimolade had no business going to Lokoja, Okene, etc if he was after a Yoruba church. Though he couldn’t communicate in English, the people after him did a great job to internationalise the church. I see Orimolade as a sincere person who desired a church without wrinkles. We appreciate that God want us to complete the original vision, which Orimolade couldn’t complete, just as Joshua completed the assignment God gave Moses.

Specifically, are you into burning of candles, incense, fruits, bathing at the streams, bar beach, etc?
What I am saying is that whatever that is not in the New Testament church is not allowed in this C&S Bible Ministry. If we want Jesus to prevail here, then whatever Jesus, His disciples and the apostles did not lay down can’t be found in our church. This C&S church is based strictly and solely on the teachings in the New Testament.

A New Testament C&S Church?
Definitely. In Matthew 7, Jesus said only the wise would listen and obey His instructions. I ask myself what about instructions that came before Him? I regard them as foolish. Only the wise ones would go by Jesus instructions. There is no use of candles, sleeping at beaches, practice of rituals here because Jesus does not teach them.

Accessing the old C&S Church
As a child of God, I would be dissatisfied with whatever dissatisfies God. I sincerely believe that our forerunners couldn’t do better because they did not have the grace. But we consider ourselves blessed and highly favoured and to whom much is given much is expected. And so we don’t compare. If we are comparing, we would be dissatisfied. The generations before us had done the best they could within the framework of the light available to them. They have been able to hold the church together such that we still have the C&S, which we now hope to reconstruct spiritually. If a church collapses, it has a far-reaching effect on Christendom and it will enhance the smooth flow of people to hell.

"It is easier to stay in the Pentecostal church and do exploit than in the C&S."

Contributions of C&S to Christendom.
I will say that the C&S Church has acted as a boat with which many people got to their comfortable spiritual zones. You will be surprised to know that people like Benson Idahosa (now late) Rev. Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi, founder of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Rev. Joe Olaiya, Rev. Oyebanji, Bishop Okonkwo of TREM, Pastor Abidemi Temitope Williams of God of Glory Christian Church (Breakthrough Family) and many others have passed through the C&S to establish their great ministries and cChurches. The church was able to create hunger and thirst for righteousness even if it couldn’t feed them. The church has also helped to preach peace and teach the word of God to all members who…

Is the C&S word based?

Well, if you saw the original programme of the C&S Church, it set aside every Thursday for Bible study just as other cChurches do. Most of the programmes and activities done by these new cChurches were actually conceptualized by the founding father of the C&S Church. This I read in a book, C&S Church: an Independent African Church by Rev. Akinyele Omoyajowo.

Acceptance by the old C&S.
We are accepted and we have a great rapport with the hierarchy of the Movement.

If we want Jesus to prevail here, then whatever Jesus, His disciples and the apostles did not lay down can’t be found in our church.

We engage in various seminars such as seminars for women to empower them in the church. We do this in different C&S branches and so many people have benefited. We hope to train people in the C&S cChurches so that they can train others in their cChurches. This we believe will lead to an explosion of kingdom matters on earth.

White garment and walking barefooted
Generally, white clothing commands respect. People who criticize our garments still respect it in a way. But if we have managed the white garment properly all of us would have been wearing white today. We are not dropping the white garment but we don’t place emphasis on it. People can freely worship with us without it. During the weekdays, I am perhaps the only person in white.

About the shoes, it is also not a permanent thing. We wear shoes when we are conducting our services outside the church. But in the church, we don’t.

How New Testamental are these?
I think it’s just our desire to respect God.

C&S members wearing red, yellow or blue garments.
Different things in life disturb some people because they read various things including what they call Seven Books of Moses. Some read about the significance of colours and have associated them with concept like joy, love, success, peace, etc. All these are out of ignorance. They have no basis or advantage on spiritual things of God.

Let me ask you this question: are you sure of yourself that you solely rely on God and not afraid of doing exploits in a setting like the C&S?
It is easier to stay in the Pentecostal church and do exploit than in the C&S. What you do to win a soul in C&S will win a hundred souls in the Pentecostal church! This is not applicable to the C&S church alone because there are so many orthodox cChurches where Christians combine church with cultism. I have come to know that for any pastor to come and change such habits will take the grace of God. Many of these people are ready to die rather than abandon ‘extra-Jesus’ powers they have come to appreciate.

On my part, here is nothing I hold dear to myself other than God fulfilling His goals in my life. I am not rooting to live for a hundred years on earth, all that is important to me is that may God be fulfiled and be pleased with what I am doing. I am not longing to build empires; all that is important to me is that may God take victory in this church. When God Himself called me, I delayed for a long time because I wanted to be sure. I told Him to speak to other people about this calling so that they could come and speak with me and He did. It was not really that I was not convinced, but I wanted it to be confirmed to so many other people that God actually called me. Today, I enjoy the blessing of the Lord because He said He would be with me in all I do

Pastor Gideon Oyedepo
