Can you tell me what is wrong with a bottle of beer last thing to bed?

Please tell me what is wrong with taking a bottle of beer, like Star, Gulder, I mean the light beer (not stout)
I am a Christian and a deacon in my church. I have faith in God and do pray and i have proofs that God listens to me. I live right and keep His commandments. When i drink, i don't drink in public. Not because i am scared of people seeing me but because i like it at home with my wife. When i feel relaxed after the days job. And we drink late in the night when the children are asleep in our bedroom where we have a private refrigerator. At that time of the night, there is no chance of misbehaving. And i have not gone beyond one bottle before. My wife takes stout. On rare occasions i take two. So what is wrong with that?
Moreover, I have not seen a verse that goes against drinking. The few references to drinking only warn on the consequences of drunkenness. Preacher explain this please. This is an issue I cant raise with my pastor. Thank God for this online facility.

Deacon BTS, Kaduna Nigeria.

Pastor Wale's response.

When a similar question was asked Paul by the Corinthian church about eating what was sacrificed to idols, his reply was: All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them. ( 1Cor. 6:12-13)

He also added in 1 Cor. 10:23 All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify .

He went ahead to pose a few tests we may subject our actions to:

•  Does it glorify God? 1 Cor 10:31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God .

•  Does it provide a good example to other believers ? 1Tim 4:12 be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity .

•  Is it a good testimony among unbelievers? 1 Tim 3:7 Moreover he must have a good testimony among those who are outside.

•  In this case I should add Does this action have any he alth implications ?

Carefully answer these questions and decide what is best for you. Selah!
